A fool’s talk brings a rod to his back, BUT the lips of the wise protect them. (Proverbs 14:3)
Words have consequences long after they leave our mouths. Proverbs reminds us that foolish speech has a way of circling back and hurting the person who spoke it, while wisdom knows that sometimes the safest word is the one left unsaid. But this is about more than simply keeping quiet. Wise lips know when to speak, how to speak, and when silence says enough. We cannot always control what is said about us or to us, but we can choose what comes from us. Sometimes wisdom sounds like the right words. Sometimes it sounds like no words at all.
