Sometimes our role is simply to look ahead with joy, prepare the ground, and beautifully pass the torch to the generation coming up behind us.
Moses stood on Mount Nebo and saw the land toward which he had spent forty years leading Israel. He could see the promise ahead, but he would not cross over into it.
There’s something both bittersweet and beautiful in that moment. Not every work God gives us will be ours to finish, and not every seed we plant will produce fruit we personally get to enjoy. Sometimes faithfulness means preparing the ground, sharing what we’ve learned, encouraging those who will continue the journey, and then graciously passing the torch. Our part of the story may end before the destination—but that doesn’t make our part any less important.
