If you’ve followed along the last 15 weeks, last Wednesday we finished the first set of 15 Pivots we set out to consider from the Pentateuch (the first 5 books of the Bible). Today we begin the next set of 15 Pivots, these come from the Historical Books. I hope you’re enjoying our journey through the great Pivots of the entire Bible … one book at a time.
Everybody gets to choose, but here’s my choice.
Joshua puts the choice plainly before the people: everyone must decide whom they will serve. He cannot make that decision for them, but he can make it for himself. “As for me and my household…” There is resolve in those words—a conviction that doesn’t wait to see which direction everyone else is heading before choosing its own path.
We cannot control the choices of others, even those closest to us. But we can choose the direction of our own lives and the example we set for those who walk beside us. Faithful leadership begins there—not with forcing someone else to follow, but with the quiet conviction to say, Here is where I stand. Here is the way I intend to live. As for me, I will serve the LORD.
