Justice can be distorted in more than one direction.
God warns His people not to favor the powerful because of their influence—but neither are they to favor the poor simply because of their need. Wealth, status, sympathy, influence, appearance, or advantage are not supposed to tip the scales.
But judge your neighbor fairly.
That little but calls us beyond choosing sides. It calls us to something harder: seeing people truthfully, treating them impartially, and doing what is right regardless of who stands before us.
The Pivot: God’s justice doesn’t ask who deserves our favoritism. It asks us to put favoritism aside. And that … is love.
