The Return

For a long time, this page has been quiet.

Truthfully, it had run its course.

Years ago, I created Big Buts of the Bible as a companion to a book I wrote called Big Buts of the Bible: A Revealing Look at Jesus Christ. At the time, I was a pastor writing primarily for youth, young adults, new believers, and those who enjoyed digging a little deeper into Scripture with a smile and a sense of curiosity.

But life has a way of changing us.

Since those early days, I’ve lived a lot more life. I’ve experienced joy and loss, questions and growth, certainty and humility. I’ve spent years writing alongside people serving in mental health, addiction recovery, law enforcement, healthcare, and ministry. I’ve listened to countless stories of struggle, resilience, heartbreak, healing, and hope.

And somewhere along the way, Big Buts began changing too.

My faith hasn’t become smaller. If anything, it has become deeper. Simpler. More centered on what Jesus Himself said mattered most: loving God and loving others.

The more I look at the world around me, the more convinced I become that people aren’t looking for more arguments. They’re looking for hope. They’re looking for grace. They’re looking for someone willing to listen. They’re looking for a place to breathe.

That’s what I hope this page becomes.

Not a conjunction archive.

Not Bible trivia.

Not a place to win debates.

A refuge.

A place to discover hope hidden in plain sight.

A place where broken stories meet God’s grace.

In the weeks ahead, I’ll be sharing reflections, stories, discoveries, encouragement, and yes—all those wonderful little “buts” that change everything.

Whether you’ve been here from the beginning or you’ve just arrived, welcome. I’m glad you’re here. — Darin
